Soft pastels! Good luck!

Well...it depends on what you are after. If you start by doing a charcoal as a value study you will understand the the painting better before you start the actual painting. If you are simply copying the painting as is you may not need that step. I would use watercolor because I think nothing glows more than transparent watercolors next to opaques. The light colors in this against the dark background make a very special effect on this painting I really like. Examine the dark background carefully, it is more important than you might think at first. Experiment with it on a separate piece of paper. Make sure you are careful to leave the white areas clean even if you have to write %26quot;white%26quot; in pencil on the paper in those areas. Look up how to mix flesh colors on line or in a watercolor book, it isn%26#039;t difficult, but it is better to have a formula for it than to have to experiment for hours trying to find the right combination. Good luck. Next try doing you children, grandchildren, neighbor%26#039;s kids, whatever in a the same pose. Check the paragraph on %26quot;Pallet%26quot; in the following link;

Reply:That is some artist%26#039;s work to copy it is unethical at best. Take a photo of your own composition and be original. If you are comfortable drawing stick to pastels.
