What are some difficulties with working with chalk pastel?

Well for one you can%26#039;t get as detailed as you would want to with other mediums, unless you carve your pieces of chalk to have sharp tips. Still, the medium is chalky (of course) and crumbles easily, thus resulting in less detailed works. But it is easy to shade and blend, much easier then oil pastels.

If also harder to keep finished works nice. You have to spray it with fixative immediately after finishing a piece, and then unless it is workable fixative, you can%26#039;t go back and add to the piece.

But you can get some really nice chalk pieces by working on colored paper, try that.
